I have always had a fascination with textiles & found objects. When I paired this with my love for a bright color palette, a spark ignited. I chose the "brush name" of Kennedi Benjamin as a way to honor my family for helping to get through art school while caring for my terminally ill 8 year old daughter, Shae. I have a BA in General Studio Art from Southern Illinois University. I have had solo shows, group showcases and gallery representation in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Florida. My work is in collections across the United States and Mexico. I have a piece in the permanent collection at the Arkansas State Convention Center. I have taught art to adults and children of all ages and spearheaded an after school Arts Enrichment Program in Hillsborough County, FL. Presently, my art studio is based in Houston, TX.

I am a collector of things....buttons, stamps, broken jewelry, discarded Happy Meal toys and other seemingly useless treasures. These discarded memories often still have a story to tell and this is often the first step in my process. Pique Assiette is a French phrase for taking stolen bits and turning these bits into a new art form. Every good story has a back story....this is the life of my work. Combine the story with texture medium, paint, glitter and wax pastels and you have my recipe for creativity.
One of my backstories is that I had an 8 year old daughter who died in 1993 due to a genetic syndrome. I believe that the number 8 is our way of saying I love you to each other. You'll often find a hidden number 8 in my work. I also work in a gold crown in many paintings. This backstory is a little salty but nonetheless a part of what mad

The crown is a sarcastic punch to the high school mean girl who tried to de-thrown me as the small town homecoming queen. This is my way of still reigning.... haha -all these years later. She can't take that away. Everyone should be the queen of their life, it isn't anyone else's business who you think you are. Flaunt the damn crown and shine on.
